The History major offers three broad areas of historical inquiry, in which students are required to specialise:
a) Cultural History -- with an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural focus on the histories of Australia, Europe, South-East Asia and the United States
b) Regional History -- with a focus on the history of modern nation states
c) Thematic History -- with a focus on important international themes in history.
Employment Prospects:
The study of history promotes generic and applied skills (literary, analytical and communicatory) appropriate to a broad range of careers in both public and private sectors of the economy.
Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings:
As per normal undergraduate admission requirements.
English competence.
Internet access is required for students studying externally; exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Special Requirements:
There may be a reduction in choice of units if completing this course in the external mode.

American, Asian, Australian, British, French, Irish and Pacific history.
Languages and Writing Skills:
History students are strongly encouraged to include a writing unit in their selection of a general elective at either Part I or Part II. It is also recommended that students consider studying a language other than English, with Indonesian, Japanese, Biblical Hebrew and New Testament Greek, all available at Murdoch through the Asian Studies or Theology courses.
