International Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Practice

School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences

Qualification:
International Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Practice (IntPgCertSmallAniPrac)

Availability:
Murdoch campus (external)
This course is only available to international students studying in Australia on a student visa, through online delivery; it is available to international students on other visas if visa conditions allow.

Restriction:
All postgraduate courses are subject to restriction.

Duration:
1 to 2 years part-time only

This course has been designed for veterinarians working in small animal practice in the Asia-Pacific and other tropical and subtropical locations outside Australia, and specifically addresses the challenges and demands of companion animal practice in these geographical regions. This course will provide veterinarians with knowledge and expertise to complement their undergraduate studies in small animal medical diagnosis, surgical principles and infectious and parasitic disease. The entire course is delivered online.

Employment Prospects:
Graduates will have the opportunity to use the qualification to supplement their home country veterinary degree and advance their career prospects in the booming small animal practice veterinary industry in South-East Asia, or to apply for enrolment in further Murdoch postgraduate veterinary study.

This course also provides appropriate preparation for the small animal sections of the National Veterinary Examination in Australia or New Zealand (but does not ensure registration.)

Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings:
Veterinary undergraduate degree obtained from a university outside Australia; completion of a one week practical short course held in Asia.

A high level of English competence equivalent to at least IELTS score 6.0, or TOEFL 550 (with the Test of Written English 5) [paper-based], or TOEFL 213 (with the Test of Written English 5) [computer-based].

Internet access is required for students studying externally; exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Professional Recognition:
There is no professional body recognition of the International Postgraduate Certificate. However, many organisations would value a postgraduate qualification from an English-speaking and AVMA-accredited institution.

Further Study:
Students successfully completing this course may undertake further study in the Master of Veterinary Studies in Small Animal Practice with 12 credit points.
