The purpose of the Graduate Diploma in Information Technology is to provide graduates from a discipline other than Information Technology with a formal qualification in that field. Students can elect to focus their studies in either computer science or information systems, depending on their choice of units. Prospective Students are advised to contact the School of Information Technology for further advice.
The course can be completed by part-time study or in one year by full-time study if students have some background in Information Technology.
Employment Prospects:
Graduates find employment as analysts, programmers, project managers, in computer support, database development and database administration.
Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings:
Recognised Bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent training, or satisfactory preparation through previous study or professional experience.
Some of the units taken assume some prior knowledge, details of which are given in the description of each unit in the Handbook. Some students may therefore need to complete additional prerequisite units. Please contact the School for advice.
English competence.
Internet access is required for students studying externally; exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Professional Recognition:
Graduates of this course are eligible for membership of the Australian Computer Society at the Associate Level.
Exemption from Postgraduate Coursework Regulations:
In this course, where appropriate, undergraduate units (between 100- and 400-level) have been included to meet the learning outcomes for the entire course. Postgraduate students can expect to be part of a learning community with undergraduate students in these units. This course has been granted a specific exemption from the Postgraduate Coursework Regulations.
