Waardong is a special entry program into the School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who want to become veterinarians. In order to maximise student success, Waardong provides academic, social and cultural support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in Veterinary Science or, as approved by the relevant Academic Chair, other participating Health Science courses.
Waardong teaches Orientation Chemistry for students without a background in chemistry, and supplementary enabling units for students throughout their veterinary or other health science studies.
Students interested in applying for entry should contact the Special Education Officer in the School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences. The deadline for submission of applications is 30 September each year; testing and selection week is in early December.

This special entry program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is based on student results during the one-week residential testing and selection process. Evaluation of student readiness for study involves practical and written exercises throughout the week.

Students entering Waardong are placed in either one of Non-Chemistry Transition or Transition with Chemistry.
Students who do not have a background in chemistry are placed in Non-Chemistry Transition, which provides an intensive Orientation Chemistry and supplementary tutoring in all other units. Students take the first year of the Veterinary Biology degree over two years.
Students who have entered the Veterinary Science major with Year 12 Chemistry are placed in Transition with Chemistry, which provides for supplementary tutoring in all units. These students enrol in the first year full-time.
