Description This course is designed for qualified primary school teachers who wish to make early childhood education and care one of their recognised specialisations. It specifically addresses the early childhood years birth - 5.
Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings Undergraduate or graduate qualification in primary teaching.

Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0.
Special Requirements Prior to placement in any school or child-care centre for Professional Experience, it is mandatory that students complete or obtain several forms and clearances.

Completion and submission of these mandatory requirements is essential before placements can be arranged.
Course Learning Outcomes * Demonstrate an appropriate level of teaching skills to meet the needs of a diverse range of learners.

* Develop practical strategies for creating rapport with and guiding children's' behaviour to support their well-being and safety and to maximise learning opportunities.

* Develop learning programs that meet statutory curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements.

* Demonstrate achievement of AITSL Graduate Professional Standards through a portfolio.

* Demonstrate achievement of ACECQA curriculum requirements through a portfolio.

* Interpret diagnostic and assessment data to evaluate children's learning and differentiate teaching practice and apply timely and appropriate types of feedback to improve children's learning.
Employment Prospects Early Childhood Education and Care
Professional Recognition On completion of the Graduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood Education and Care), students have a nationally accepted qualification from a recognised university and are eligible for employment in Australian Early Childhood Education and Care sector (working with children aged birth to five years).

Other Information Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood and Care) may apply for admission to the Master of Education (Coursework).
Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
