|Restriction||All graduate courses are subject to restriction.|
|Description||This 1-year Graduate Diploma course is designed to train students in omics science technologies. Students will gain extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of key omic techniques from researchers at the forefront of systems medicine. On completion of this course, graduates will have high level of multidisciplinary expertise to meet the skills currently sought by employers in academia/industry/healthcare. Students will undertake 12 points of taught coursework and 12 points of research preparation.|
|Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings||A recognised Bachelor Degree (AQF Level 7) with a GPA of 2.5 or higher, including studies in either biochemistry or chemistry AND either mathematics or
statistics. Applicants who can show equivalent knowledge through vocational training and/or experience will be considered.
Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.
|Course Learning Outcomes||On completion of this course, graduates will be able to:
CLO1: Explain the theoretical knowledge of different omics techniques and their application in systems medicine
CLO2: Recognise and explain the applicability of systems medicine within different clinical domains
CLO3: Critically analyse and interpret complex omics datasets
CLO4: Exercise effective communication and technical skills to evaluate research output
CLO5: Design and plan a substantial piece of systems medicine research in a clinically relevant discipline
CLO6: Communicate research output to audience of different levels from general public to expert audience
CLO7: Create an experimental design and analysis plan for conducting a multi-omic study taking account of analytical platforms, clinical samples and financial constraints into account
CLO8: Competently use different spectroscopic techniques for analysis of biological specimens
CLO9: Competently analyse omics dataset using appropriate data analysis techniques.
|Employment Prospects||In research institutes, hospitals, industries within health care; scientific professional, technical professional and academia|
|Main research areas||Phenomics, systems medicine, bioinformatics, clinical areas (aging, cardiometabolic diseases, maternal and early life), omics science|
|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
