|Description||The recent move to elevate Year 7 into high school curriculum means that a lot of Primary teachers need an extra qualification to teach mathematics in high school. They need an understanding of the pedagogy/curriculum of Secondary Mathematics. This course fulfils that need. |
The Graduate Certificate in Education (Secondary Mathematics 7 - 10) is designed for qualified teachers who are interested in upskilling in this area. Core units include pedagogy, curriculum, mathematics and statistics.
|Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings||Recognised Bachelor of Education degree or higher, or equivalent training. Please note that the course does not constitute an initial teaching qualification.
English competence in accordance with Murdoch University graduate English language requirements.
|Course Learning Outcomes||Knowledge
1. Demonstrate specialist knowledge in the theory and practice of lower secondary mathematics
2. Demonstrate understanding of mathematics content applicable to Lower Secondary Mathematics curriculum.
3. Review, analyse and synthesise a range of different theoretical approaches to curriculum and pedagogy and identify practical applications of theoretical knowledge.
Application of skills and knowledge
4. Initiate, plan and implement learning programs in a secondary setting.
5. Use reflective practice to evaluate and plan for own professional growth.
|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
