Description Religion is a major in the Bachelor of Arts that takes a multidisciplinary approach to the investigation and understanding of religion in human societies. The aim is to examine the cultural and historical complexities of religion across a range of societies and historical periods. This type of exploration of religious beliefs and practices does not seek to assess their merits or truthfulness, but rather seeks to understand their origins, internal dynamics, and impacts on cultures and societies.
In the Bachelor of Arts you will develop a broad understanding of your field and proficiency in producing written and oral arguments and creative artefacts in response to social, human and natural phenomena. You will also develop a critical appreciation of the perspectives of others. As an Arts graduate you will be able to think critically and creatively, apply knowledge and information, and communicate effectively. These are professional skills which are critical across a range of industries. You will also be able to pursue further study in the fields of social research, the humanities and/or the creative arts.
Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings As per normal undergraduate admission requirements.

Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0.
Major Learning Outcomes KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrate critical thinking by:
* articulating a knowledge of, applying and evaluating theoretical concepts involved in the study of religion;
* recognizing the interdisciplinary nature of Religious Studies;
* demonstrating knowledge of more than one world religion;
* analyzing the role that religion plays in society and its interrelationship with social, technological, cultural and ethical practices.

SKILLS
Investigate issues in the Religious Studies, both individually and in teams, by:
* identifying questions, and designing and undertaking research;
* applying recognised methods in the study of religion and adapting these when necessary;
* collecting, recording and interpreting data and presenting this research in a argument;
* synthesising and evaluating information from a range of sources, including traditional and emerging information technologies and methods.

APPLICATION
Communicate knowledge in religion by:
* presenting information, articulating arguments and conclusions, in a variety of modes, to diverse audiences, and for a range of purposes.
Take personal, professional and social responsibility by:
* recognising the relevant ethical standards required for an informed study of religion;
* demonstrating a capacity for self-directed learning;
* demonstrating a capacity for working responsibly and safely;
* understanding and being able to articulate aspects of the place and importance of religion in the local and global community.

Employment Prospects A major in Religion provides an excellent range of critical, analytical skills. It also provides multicultural and multidisciplinary perspectives on vital aspects of human social structures and interactions. As such, a Religion major is an excellent basis for careers in public service, diplomatic service, education, non-profit organisations, multi-faith chaplaincy, and museums.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.

Select from the prescribed list of University-Wide Breadth Units. A unit cannot be used to satisfy both this Breadth Unit requirement and the requirements of a major or minor. If taken at 100 level the unit(s) will be attributed to Part I. Note that no more than 30 credit points at Part I may be credited towards course completion requirements.
