Description The Doctor of Psychology is an intensive three and a half year professional research degree consisting of seminars, supervised practical work and applied research.

The first year of study is the same as Year 1 of the relevant Master of Applied Psychology (MAppPsych). Students who complete the first year of the Master of Applied Psychology with marks of distinction may apply for transfer to the DPsych. The specific purpose of the DPsych is to enable students to undertake applied Doctoral-level research on a topic of their choice which will make a distinct contribution to the profession whilst gaining skills in applied psychology to meet registration requirements, and to pursue specialised study in their chosen professional area.

All of the teaching staff are practising Applied Psychologists. Murdoch University has the Psychology Clinic, the Counselling Psychology Consulting Service and the Organisational Psychology Consulting Service to act as practical training facilities and community services. In addition, the University cooperates with Commonwealth and State Public Service Ministries and Departments such as Department for Community Development, Justice, Employment, Health, Safety and Welfare, Education, the Disability Services Commission and other public and private services and facilities in Western Australia.
Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings Applicants for the DPsych are required to submit a research proposal and the name of a supervisor on the University staff with their application. Applicants will be required to present their research to a panel prior to admission. Applicants should hold a four year sequence of study in an APAC accredited program with the equivalent of a 2A honours degree in Psychology. Students with overseas qualifications need to ensure that their undergraduate qualifications are equivalent to a four-year APAC Accredited Australian degree in Psychology. Applications with qualifications obtained outside Australia must have a formal assessment completed by the Australian Psychological Society before submitting an application for study.

Applicants who hold the equivalent of the relevant APAC Accredited Master of Applied Organisational Psychology are to complete the balance of units in the DPsych. A maximum of 36 points of credit may be granted to those applicants who have completed equivalent coursework. The degree may be undertaken on a part-time basis but requires attendance of on-campus seminars and, for parts of the course, full-day attendance on campus or at a practicum site.

Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0.
Special Requirements Graduate students must be registered from the start of their higher degree as a provisional psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia within the first two weeks of commencing the program. As many agencies require all staff working with their clients or patients to have a police clearance, students are required to obtain a Federal police clearance (which will include WA clearance) if accepted into the course. Clearly any agency will only be seeking information about behaviours that may place vulnerable clients at risk and will not be interested in any other type of behaviours. The student meets the cost of these clearances. Please note that some organisations providing professional placements require students to provide full immunisation records. Applicants must be in a position to provide these documents if required.

Students must also:
Attend 6 advanced workshops outlined below including the Psychology Board of Australia's approved supervision training. These do not count towards practicum placement hours.

2) Influence in the Workplace
3) Applied Project Management Part 1 (1 day)
4) Applied Project Management Part 2 (1 day)
5) PRINCE2 Foundation Certification Course (3 days) and Applied PRINCE2 (1 day)
6) Supervisor Training Workshop (1 day).
Course Learning Outcomes KNOWLEDGE
Graduates of this degree will be able to:
a) demonstrate a substantial body of knowledge at the frontier of the field of Organisational Psychology, including knowledge that constitutes an original contribution
b) demonstrate substantial knowledge of research principles and methods applicable to the field of Organisational Psychology

Graduates of this degree will be able to:
a) demonstrate expert understanding of theoretical knowledge and to reflect critically on that theory and practice
b) demonstrate intellectual independence to think critically, evaluate existing knowledge and ideas, undertake systematic investigation and reflect on theory and practice to generate original knowledge
c) demonstrate expert technical and creative skills applicable to the field of Organisational Psychology
d) demonstrate communication skills to explain and critique theoretical propositions, methodologies and conclusions

f) design, implement, analyse, theorise and communicate research that makes a significant and original contribution to knowledge and/or professional practice

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
