Description The aim of Honours is to provide training in research and the development of higher-level skills. The student's grasp of the principles and practice of their subject will be extended and they will develop ability for independent research.

Successful completion of the Honours course is required for admission to research degrees (i.e. Masters or PhD degrees).
Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings Completion of a Bachelor Degree (AQF Level 7) or equivalent in the same discipline or cognate area with a Distinction average; subject to availability of a suitable supervisor and approval by the Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) of the School.

Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0.

Course Learning Outcomes KNOWLEDGE
Graduates of this degree will be able to:
a) demonstrate coherent and advanced knowledge of the underlying principles and concepts in Physics and Nanotechnology
b) demonstrate knowledge of research principles and methods

Graduates of this degree will be able to:
a) review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge to identify and provide solutions to complex problems with intellectual independence
b) apply technical skills to demonstrate a broad understanding of a body of knowledge and theoretical concepts with advanced understanding in some areas
c) exercise critical thinking and judgement in developing new understanding
d) design and use research in a project
e) present a clear and coherent exposition of knowledge and ideas to a variety of audiences

Graduates of this degree will be able to:
a) demonstrate initiative and judgement in professional practice and/or scholarship
b) adapt knowledge and skills in diverse contexts
c) show responsibility and accountability for own learning and practice and in collaboration with others within broad parameters
d) plan and execute project work and/or a piece of research and scholarship with some independence

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
