Qualification Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Crop and Pasture Science
Duration 3 years full-time or part-time equivalent
Availability Murdoch campus (internal)
Some units only: Murdoch campus (external)
Description This Major will use a systems perspective to provide a sound understanding of the factors that affect the growth of plants used for food and forage production. It will demonstrate how plant growth can be manipulated through various interventions. The farm business operating environment will be considered in terms of government policies, markets and the value chain. Embedded throughout will be consideration of the role of new technologies in improving the yield, profitability and sustainability of food production systems.
Murdoch's Bachelor of Science is a flexible degree which gives you the opportunity to build deep understanding and practical experience as well as to supplement your studies by engaging with industry and the community on relevant problems. You can even undertake studies through another discipline to broaden your understanding of the way in which science operates in relation to social, business, health and policy environments.
Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings As per normal undergraduate admission requirements. There are no prerequisites for admission but it is highly desirable for students to have studied WACE Chemistry 3A/3B and at least Mathematics 2A/2B.

Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0.
Major Learning Outcomes MLO 1 - Demonstrate a clear understanding of the importance of crop and pasture production in terms of biological, physical/environmental and social contexts.
MLO 2 - Demonstrate a broad and coherent knowledge and understanding of the underlying principles and core concepts of the crop and pasture sciences, with an emphasis on manipulating production through science and technological interventions.
MLO 3 - Demonstrate a broad and coherent knowledge of crop and pasture science and an understanding of how abiotic and biotic processes influence the growth and management of agricultural plants.
MLO 4 - Demonstrate a broad and coherent knowledge of experimental design and analysis appropriate to the various disciplines in the biological sciences including the use of contemporary multivariate statistics, molecular analyses and experimental design.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.

Major Prerequisites
