Description Increasingly, government and corporate organisations need to identify information security risks and interdependencies between business functions. Escalating security threats to organisations' information assets and increasing needs for organisations to comply with governance of information management have resulted in organisations requiring well-trained ICT professionals capable of addressing three key issues: managing information; protecting information; and forensic investigation of information security incidents. Graduates of this major will be well suited to meet these important industry demands.
Murdoch's Bachelor of Science is a flexible degree which gives you the opportunity to build deep understanding and practical experience as well as to supplement your studies by engaging with industry and the community on relevant problems. You can even undertake studies through another discipline to broaden your understanding of the way in which science operates in relation to social, business, health and policy environments.

Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0.

MLO1 - On successful completion of this major, students demonstrate broad knowledge of

b) The underlying principles and core concepts of Information Technology including abstraction, systems thinking, programming, data communications, databases, server environments and computer systems
MLO2 - On successful completion of this major, students demonstrate detailed knowledge of the requirements and methods for
a) Security analysis of computer systems and the design, implementation and maintenance of security mechanisms
b) Forensic investigation of computer-based crime and subsequent presentation of evidence
c) Information security governance including information security strategy, risk management and compliance, and information security incident management

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
