Description | Web Communication combines an exciting mix of web design, digital marketing and public relations. Students will learn how to design and develop strategies for web communication campaigns using a range of digital media including, social media, websites, mobile technology, games, video and online news media. Students will learn all about conveying information and ideas using networks such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, powerful search engines such as Google and Yahoo and well-designed and written websites and blogs to deliver creatively planned strategic outcomes for organisations. In the Bachelor of Arts you will develop a broad understanding of your field and proficiency in producing written and oral arguments and creative artefacts in response to social, human and natural phenomena. You will also develop a critical appreciation of the perspectives of others. As an Arts graduate you will be able to think critically and creatively, apply knowledge and information, and communicate effectively. These are professional skills which are critical across a range of industries. You will also be able to pursue further study in the fields of social research, the humanities and/or the creative arts. |

Major Learning Outcomes | KNOWLEDGE Understand Web Communication principles by: * demonstrating a knowledge of, and applying the principles and concepts of Web Communications across a range of projects; * recognising that Web Communication is a industry that impacts on, and is influenced by, other disciplines in practice; * recognising that Web Communication plays an important part in the production of online social and cultural communications; * recognising the holistic creative endeavour in developing strategies for web communication campaigns using a range of web design, digital marketing, social media and public relations techniques. SKILLS Develop Web Communication skills, both individually and in teams, by: * researching and applying a range of Web Communication, strategies and methodologies for a specific purpose; * researching, designing and evaluating web strategies in relation to specific purposes, audiences, contexts and underlying technologies; * applying recognised Web Communication methods and appropriate practical strategies, techniques, tools and technologies, and being able to adapt these processes when necessary; * adopting a range of techniques to appropriately project manage all the aspects of a Web Communication project * critically engaging Web Communication theory and processes to analyse, interpret and evaluate web strategy processes and products. APPLICATION Apply Web Communication skills by: * demonstrating the use of web design, digital marketing, social media and public relations methodologies toward the creation of web communication solutions; * presenting creative and strategic solutions to client based problems, in a variety of modes, to diverse audiences, and for a range of purposes. * skilfully using web design, digital marketing, social media and public relations techniques toward the successful production of web communication campaigns * synthesizing personal, group, industry convention and client based viewpoints towards the successful resolution of web communication projects Take personal, professional and social responsibility by: * recognising the relevant and required ethical conduct and behaviour within the web, public relations and digital marketing industry is practiced; * demonstrating a capacity for self-directed learning; * demonstrating a capacity for working responsibly and safely; * respecting the thoughts and opinions of others * working effectively within team environments |

Internet Access Requirements | Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online. |
