|Description||This course is designed for teaching professionals. It introduces the history and development of International Education as a field of study. It explores the conceptualisation of international mindedness and the trend to internationalise curriculum. It examines and critiques a range of international curriculum models and practices, and introduces the essential elements of the International Baccalaureate (IB) suite of programmes: Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme. Students develop a Teaching Portfolio throughout the course and have opportunities to observe and converse with international school teachers. The course is authorised and aligned to the IB Teaching and Learning Certificate.|
|Admission Requirements: Onshore course offerings||Recognised Bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent training. Students who are not qualified teachers but have had at least two years of full-time recent, relevant and satisfactory teaching experience may seek admission to the Certificate, but should note that the course does not constitute an initial teaching qualification.
|Special Requirements||This course requires field experience in IB schools, meetings with IB teachers and research into IB (for non-IB experienced teachers). The field experience will occur throughout the three units that comprise the certificate.
Prior to placement in any school for Professional Experience, it is mandatory that pre-service teachers complete or obtain mandatory requirements accessed via the Professional Experience website: http://www.murdoch.edu.au/School-of-Education/Professional-Experience
If field experience is undertaken out of Western Australia, the equivalent criminal record checks and registrations must be obtained.
|Course Learning Outcomes||1. Demonstrate specialist knowledge in the theory, practice and history of international education, schooling, curriculum, programs, ideals and strategies to internationalise education.
2. Review, analyse and synthesise knowledge to gain insight into the field of international education.
3. Evaluate, review, critique and explore international education and internationalisation of education in a variety of contexts.
4. Use reflective practice to evaluate and plan for own professional growth in the field of international education.

|Professional Recognition||This course has been authorised by the International Baccalaureate (IB). |Further Study||Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate may apply for admission to the Master of Education (Coursework) and on completion receive the IB Advanced Certificate of Teaching and Learning.|
|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
