Description The Foundation Program bridges the gap between the qualifications students gain at high school and those needed to enter a degree. While completing the Foundation Program, students will study units that prepare them for further studies in the University's degrees. The elective units studied within the Foundation Program will be dependent upon the subsequent degree into which graduates seek to progress: Arts/Media and Communication, Business, Information Technology, Engineering (not available in 2020).
Admission Requirements: Offshore course offerings Australian High School Year 11 with 4 passes OR Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificate III or international equivalent
Equivalent of an Academic IELTS overall score of 5.5 with no band less than 5.0.
Special Requirements All students must be a minimum of 17 years of age on enrolment in the Foundation Program.
Course Learning Outcomes Graduates will possess:
1. Foundational knowledge in one of a number of discipline streams:
· Arts and Communication;
· Business;
· Information Technology.
2. Communication, numeracy and literacy skills that enable graduates to present their knowledge and views to different audiences using a variety of mediums;
3. Ability to read, listen, question and gather information from a variety of sources;
4. Cognitive skills to assess, write clearly, speak effectively and use visual communication technologies as appropriate;
5. Ability to organise, analyse, compare, plan and apply knowledge to problem solving situations found within the classroom and workplace and work effectively with others;
6. Ability to apply the knowledge and skills acquired:
· in particular contexts where they will explore the challenges of contemporary society, have respect for diversity, be open-minded, sensitive to others and inclusive and to be open to other cultures and perspectives;
· in contexts where students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and to learn to be successful life-long learners;
· in contexts where students are encouraged to work with others in group work activities and projects to achieve common goals and support one another's learning; and
· in specific contexts within their areas of speciality, where students will apply their learning to situations within their class, work or community and examine their place in those environments.
Additional Academic Progress Requirements Students who successfully complete the 24 credit points as specified above within the Foundation Program and:
· achieve a GPA ≥ 80% may be eligible for admission to a Murdoch University degree (with no advanced standing for Foundation Program studies) at the discretion of the Murdoch Dubai Dean; OR
· achieve a GPA < 80% can progress directly into the related Murdoch University diploma (with no advanced standing for Foundation Program studies). On successful completion of the Murdoch University diploma, students can then progress to the related Murdoch University degree, subject to meeting any selection rank requirements, with advanced standing equivalent to 24 credit points towards the degree.
Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
