Description | Finance is a key part of an organisation's success. Finance is required to get businesses started, maintain business processes, and improve and expand a business through strategic use of financial instruments. This major equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to become an effective professional in the finance sector. It exposes them to important financial concepts in the broad areas of corporate finance, treasury management, investment analysis and international finance, focusing on issues relevant to financial managers such as capital investment decisions, dividend policy, portfolio management and derivative financial instruments. These financial concepts will be taught though a range of perspectives including the social, ethical, environmental and global, providing students with essential skills in critical thinking and principled judgment. Equipped with these skills and understandings, students will be prepared for careers in areas such as stockbroking, insurance, banking and finance departments of organisations. A fourth year of study is available in the form of an honours year. A Bachelor of Business provides a broad understanding of individual, organisational and societal issues. You will have the practical skills to identify business opportunities, analyse problems and implement solutions and you will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of business principles across key functional areas. You will have depth of knowledge in one or more business disciplines: accounting, banking, business law, finance, hospitality and tourism management, human resources management, international business, management and marketing. |

Employment Prospects | Murdoch Business graduates are equipped with the necessary skills to obtain employment in such areas as stockbroking, insurance and banking. They will also acquire skills for careers in finance in public and private sector organisations. |

Internet Access Requirements | Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online. |
