Description | In the Legal Studies major, you will explore the legal system and how it shapes our society. The major will include units in Criminology and units that broaden your understanding of the role and operation of law. You will complete units that explain the structure of the Australian legal system and develop your understanding of case law and legislation. You will examine the interaction between the law and various other disciplines and social groupings. As part of your studies, you will explore a range of issues including human trafficking, crimes against humanity and social and welfare law. You will learn about dispute resolution and have the opportunity to develop some dispute resolution skills of your own. The major provides a range of elective choices so you can tailor your major to suit your areas of interest. |

Major Learning Outcomes | Major Learning Outcomes KNOWLEDGE 1. Demonstrate a broad and coherent and understanding of the theoretical perspectives and methods of enquiry of Legal Studies SKILLS 2. Communicate in a manner consistent with the norms of Legal Studies, for a range of audiences. 3. Synthesise relevant Legal Studies literature to a standard consistent with the discipline. APPLICATION 4. Competently apply concepts to social/crime problems from a Legal Studies perspective; and 5. Critically analyse Legal Studies research findings and policy recommendations. 6. Through independent enquiry, apply knowledge and skills that recognise diversity and the rights and perspectives of others in various contexts |

Internet Access Requirements | Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online. |
