Handbook

Linking to the online Handbook

Database, field and format file names can change and invalidate any links to the Handbook which use that information directly. However, course and unit information in the online Handbook's databases can be searched easily using using scripts which should not change from year to year. Linking via the scripts will ensure that the link is always up to date: when any conditions change, the script can be updated, and all links using the script are instantly updated as well.

At present, no similar scripts exist for minors. If there is demand, they can be developed.

Courses

Create links which will search for and return course descriptions as described below. Check the course description in the current Handbook or use Callista to determine the appropriate course code.

A single course description:

where CourseCode is a full or partial course code as used in Callista.

If a partial course code is supplied (e.g. B10), the result will list all matches to that partial code, similar to the results produced by courselist.acgi (see below), but the response time is longer. The list is sorted by level of award and title; each title is a link to the full course description.

A list of courses all of the same level:

where CourseCodePrefix is the inital letter for courses as used in Callista. The list is sorted by level of award and title; each title is a link to the full course description.

Note that Honours descriptions are maintained in Handbook databases along with their relevant Bachelor descriptions. All course codes that refer to any 'set' of descriptions have been recorded in the database, so using any relevant code (e.g. Bachelor code or Honours code) will result in the same course description being returned.

or location codes for specific education providers overseas

Units

A unit description:

where UnitCode is a full or partial unit code. A search on a full code returns the full unit description; if more than one record matches then a list of possible matches are returned, where each unit title is a link to the full unit description. If only the initial letter of the Unit Code is input, a list is returned of all those units.

A list of units all available in the same mode:

or a Callista code for another location, for example

The list is sorted by title; each unit title is a link to the full unit description.

A list of units all available from the same School:

where SchoolCode is one of the codes used by Callista. See the Units home page at http://handbook.murdoch.edu.au/units/, which relies on this script to generate unit lists for each School.

A list of units all available in the same Teaching Period:

Minors
