Excluded Majors
Excluded Minors Inclusive Education
Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
Description This minor provides pre-service teachers with opportunities to extend their literacy knowledge and understandings of how children learn language and classroom literacies. The emphasis will be on providing appropriate instruction to students from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds and providing targeted intervention for students with a wide range of learning difficulties and mild disabilities. The minor will examine appropriate diagnostic approaches and tools in order to plan effectively to support students at risk of failing to meet grade-level standards. Students will develop an appreciation of the characteristic features and educational issues associated with literacy learning difficulties and other related disabilities and the ways that these are manifested in each of the language modes.
