Minor (2019)

Information on this page, including unit offerings, is from the 2019 academic year.

Organic and Biological Chemistry

Title Organic and Biological Chemistry
Organisational Unit Chemistry and Physics
Special requirements Students enrolling in units that have a practical component must make allowance for on-campus attendance to complete the practical work. The on-campus sessions for external students are generally held in a one-week block for each unit; the dates are published in each unit guide.
Excluded Majors Chemistry

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
Description Organic chemistry is a specialised field of chemistry applied in a wide range of disciplines and industries. Students can extend their knowledge of organic chemistry without completing a chemistry major. A minor in organic and biological chemistry complements studies in fields where knowledge of organic chemistry is useful. Such disciplines include molecular biology, biochemistry, forensic science and environmental science. The name of the minor reflects the inclusion of organic chemistry relevant to biological systems in the core units.
