The Murdoch University Learning Common is a uniquely-designed learning facility that brings together some key supports, concepts and resources in support of student learning.
Located in the Library on Murdoch campus, the Learning Common is home to over 180 computers, many of which are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The computers are available in various configurations, including stand-up ‘counter style’ for quick access to check emails etc., ‘classroom mode’ for teaching and self-study use, and ‘group study mode’, good for working on group projects. The Learning Common is also a wireless hotspot: study benches with power are available so that students can fire up their laptops.
The Learning Common seating arrangements reflect student needs as well, whether for study or just for hanging out and catching up with friends. Casual, booth and group seating arrangements are all in place, and two tutorial rooms can be used for project work.
The First Year Experience office, Student Learning, Murdoch Print, IT Service Counter and the Library Reference, Enquiry and Loans desks are all located within the Learning Common. And, not underestimating the value of a good coffee, both Sir Walter’s and Kadjininy cafés are within easy reach.
The Learning Common at the Peel Campus also provides computers and a variety of study spaces. Student support is provided at regular times by Library and Student Learning staff.
