The Library’s role is to support learning and research by providing focused collections, training and assistance in the use of information resources, information services, and a pleasant, functional environment in which to work and study. The Library offers services on all Murdoch’s three campuses. Peel campus is serviced through the Mandurah Senior College Library and Resource Centre.
Library staff are available to help students discover the wide range of printed and electronic resources held. An extensive training program runs throughout the year, and training and information materials are available on the Library web site and in print. Within the Library and Learning Common at the Murdoch campus, library staff work alongside staff from Student Learning, Central Student Administration and IT Services to provide a range of services and support.
The Library has extended opening hours both during and outside teaching periods. Services are also available 24 hours a day through our web site, which enables students to search our catalogue and the catalogues of other university libraries, request materials which are out on loan, check their borrower record, request items from other library collections, and search many useful databases and Internet sites. An Online Librarian service is available over extended hours to answer reference enquiries from students via their personal computers.
For students who prefer to carry out their research on campus, a large number of computer workstations are available in the Library. These provide search tools and office and communications suites for research and study purposes. Printing, copying and scanning facilities are also available at competitive prices. The Library also provides group study facilities, and a small number of carrels for private study are available on the Murdoch campus for postgraduate students enrolled in research degrees.
Special services are provided for students enrolled in distance education courses who live at a distance from the Murdoch campus.
A disabilities facility located in the Libraries at Murdoch and Rockingham provides access to a range of equipment and furniture. Designated Library staff are also available to assist with identification and collection of resources.
The Library has reciprocal agreements with all other university libraries nationally. Murdoch students (and staff) may join those libraries as borrowers by presenting proof of current enrolment (or employment).
The Library’s aim is to provide students with a friendly, relevant and expert service, and to equip them with the information literacy skills to engage in a lifetime of learning.
