Description: 

Students undertake a number of days of school-based experience. This is an opportunity to try a variety of techniques and approaches in a classroom context under the guidance of a Murdoch University Supervisor. Students must be currently enrolled in or have successfully completed the relevant curriculum unit to be eligible for a placement in schools. Students enrolled in required curriculum units externally must complete school experience in the Perth metropolitan area.

Contact time: 

5 days distributed (1 or 2 days a week) over 5 weeks, culminating in a 2-week full-time block placement.

Prerequisites: 

Enrolment in BEd (Early Childhood and Primary) or BEd (Primary) or BEd (Primary)/BA (Australian Indigenous Studies); successful completion of E101/EDU101/E1011/EDU1011 Introduction to Teaching and EDU282 Primary Curriculum I (English).
Students must have both a current WA Department of Education National Criminal History Record Check and a Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 clearance from the Department of Community Development on file in the Murdoch University School Experience (MUSE) Office prior to commencement of this unit. Students must lodge a MUSE Placement Form by the due date with the MUSE Office to guarantee a school placement.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Exclusions: 

Students enrolled in GradDipEd (Primary) should not enrol in this unit, but rather in EDU2151 School Experience: Primary Graduate as recommended in the course structure.

Assessment: 

A result of Ungraded Pass or Fail is awarded for this unit.

Total of 15 days in a school, including a 2-week block.

Prerequisites: 

Enrolment in BEd (Early Childhood and Primary) or BEd (Primary) or BEd (Primary)/BA (Australian Indigenous Studies) and EDU101/1011 Introduction to Teaching; successful completion of EDU285 Primary Curriculum III (Mathematics).
Students must have both a current WA Department of Education National Criminal History Record Check and a Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 clearance from the Department of Community Development on file in the Murdoch University School Experience (MUSE) Office prior to commencement of this unit. Students must lodge a MUSE Placement Form by the due date with the MUSE Office to guarantee a school placement.

Enrolment in BEd (Early Childhood and Primary) or BEd (Primary) or BEd (Primary)/BA (Australian Indigenous Studies) or BEd (Primary Graduate) and EDU101/EDU1011 Introduction to Teaching; successful completion of EDU286 Primary Curriculum IV (Society and Environment, Science).
Students must have both a current WA Department of Education National Criminal History Record Check and a Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 clearance from the Department of Community Development on file in the Murdoch University School Experience (MUSE) Office prior to commencement of this unit. Students must lodge a MUSE Placement Form by the due date with the MUSE Office to guarantee a school placement.
