Description: 

Students undertake a two-week block of school-based experience. This is an opportunity to try a variety of techniques and approaches in a classroom context under the guidance of a Murdoch University Supervisor. Students must complete the required preparation to be eligible for a placement in schools. Students enrolled in required curriculum units externally must complete school experience in the Perth metropolitan area. This only applies if this is the first curriculum based school experience.

Contact time: 

2 weeks full-time.

Prerequisites: 

Enrolment in a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or Bachelor of Education (Secondary Graduate) course and successful completion of E101/EDU101/E1011/EDU1011 Introduction to Teaching as well as successful completion of EDU3163 School Experience: Secondary BEd plus successful completion or concurrent enrolment in relevant curriculum unit.
Students must have both a current WA Department of Education National Criminal History Record Check and a Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 clearance from the Department of Community Development on file in the Murdoch University School Experience (MUSE) Office prior to commencement of this unit.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Exclusions: 

Students in the GradDipEd (Secondary) should not enrol in this unit.

Assessment: 

A result of Ungraded Pass or Fail is awarded for this unit.

Students who have successfully completed a unit may not enrol for credit in any subsequent version of that unit, even if under a different code and/or title, nor in any parallel lower- or higher-level version. Students enrolled in a higher-level version of a unit are required to demonstrate advanced analytical skills and/or use of advanced research tools in assignments modified for that level.

Cancellation of Courses, Minors and Units
