Description: 

This unit focusses on the special educational needs of students who may be 'at risk' of developmental delay or educational difficulties, either through impairments or disabilities, or for other reasons. It will assist participants to identify and understand diverse learning needs, develop and implement strategies to enhance learning outcomes, and monitor student progress.

Contact time: 

Lectures: 1 hour per week; workshops: 2.5 hours per week for 10 weeks in semester 1, plus one assignment component in conjunction with Professional Internship.

Prerequisites: 

Enrolment in the Bachelor of Education, Graduate Certificate in Inclusive Education, Graduate Diploma in Education Studies, E245/EDU245 Learning and Assessment Processes or E241/EDU241 Processes of Learning or EDU242 Learning and Assessment: Theory and Practice or equivalent.
For the 600-level version of this unit, students must be enrolled in a Postgraduate Certificate in Gifted and Talented Education. Students without the prerequisite should consult the Unit Coordinator.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Notes: 

Students enrolled in the Inclusive Education minor should enrol in the 6-point version of this unit. Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education at either Murdoch or Rockingham campuses are required to enrol in the 4-point year-long version.

Intensive unit run in conjunction with Professional Internship. Teaching period contains four 4-hour intensive sessions on campus, including iLectures.

Prerequisites: 

Enrolment in Graduate Diploma in Education (Primary/Secondary), or BEd (Early Childhood and Primary), or BEd (Secondary), or BEd (Secondary)/BSportsSc, or BEd (Secondary) (Graduate); E245/EDU245 Learning and Assessment Processes or E241/EDU241 Processes of Learning EDU242 Learning and Assessment: Theory and Practice or equivalent. Students without these prerequisites should contact the Unit Coordinator.

Enrolment in the Bachelor of Education (Primary) and Inclusive Education minor; E245/EDU245 Learning and Assessment Processes or E241/EDU241 Processes of Learning or EDU242 Learning and Assessment: Theory and Practice or equivalent. Students without the prerequisite should consult the Unit Coordinator.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Notes: 

An equivalent of five days of field experience in an education setting is associated with assessment in this unit.
