Description: 

Students undertake a supervised two-week block of school-based preliminary placement with a focus on children with special needs in the school in which they will complete their Professional Internship. Students must successfully complete this preliminary component in order to proceed to EDU384 Professional Internship BEd/Special Needs.

Contact time: 

Two weeks full time.
External students can do the 2 weeks on-campus components externally.

Prerequisites: 

Enrolment in the final semester of a Bachelor of Education (Primary) course AND Special Needs minor. Students will be required to have successfully completed all the required units.
Students must have both a current WA Department of Education National Criminal History Record Check and a Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 clearance from the Department of Community Development on file in the Murdoch University School Experience (MUSE) Office prior to commencement of this unit. Students must lodge a MUSE Placement Form by the due date with the MUSE Office to guarantee a school placement.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Exclusions: 

BEd (Primary) students who are not enrolled in the Special Needs minor.

Notes: 

Enrolment in the relevant Professional Internship unit (EDU384) in the same semester will be expected.

Assessment: 

A result of Ungraded Pass or Fail is awarded for this unit.
