Description: 

Gives students the opportunity to consolidate their theoretical knowledge; develops a high level of professional competence; aims to nurture the development of the reflective practitioner; establishes a foundation for confronting the issues associated with the professional responsibilities of a teacher. Consists of an initial two-weeks on-campus (internal only) prior to a six-week school-based internship with a focus on children with special needs. Concludes with two-weeks on-campus as a preparation for the students' future profession.

Contact time: 

Two weeks on campus; six weeks of school placement with a focus on children with special needs; two weeks on campus.
External students can do the on-campus components externally.

Prerequisites: 

Enrolment in the final semester of a Bachelor of Education (Primary) and Special Needs minor.
Students must have both a current WA Department of Education National Criminal History Record Check and a Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 clearance from the Department of Community Development on file in the Murdoch University School Experience (MUSE) Office prior to commencement of this unit. Students must lodge a MUSE Placement Form by the due date with the MUSE Office to guarantee a school placement.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Exclusions: 

BEd (Primary) students who are not enrolled in the Special Needs minor.

Notes: 

Students will be required to have successfully completed all the required units. Enrolment in the relevant Professional Internship Preliminary unit (EDU383) in the same semester will be expected.

Students who have successfully completed a unit may not enrol for credit in any subsequent version of that unit, even if under a different code and/or title, nor in any parallel lower- or higher-level version. Students enrolled in a higher-level version of a unit are required to demonstrate advanced analytical skills and/or use of advanced research tools in assignments modified for that level.

Cancellation of Courses, Minors and Units
The University reserves the right to cancel, without notice, any course, major, minor or unit if the number of students enrolled falls below limits set by the University.
