Description: 

This unit is designed for teaching professionals in a range of contexts, including tertiary institutions, workplaces and organisations. It requires the development, implementation and evaluation of a self-directed learning project based on action learning methodology and which addresses issues or problems within a specific teaching context. The project aims to improve and develop the student's teaching skills. The project offers an opportunity for theoretical perspectives to be translated and critiqued within a teaching context.

Contact time: 

No classes but students are encouraged to attend on-campus meetings conducted during the semester.

Prerequisites: 

Enrolment in either Graduate Diploma in Education Studies, Graduate Certificate in Drama Teaching, Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary), or Graduate Diploma in Education (Tertiary and Adult); minimum of 30 hours of satisfactory teaching, training or facilitation experience with an appropriate group of learners.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Exclusions: 

Students who have successfully completed E240 Adult Education Practicum, E270 Professional Practicum, E370 Practicum and/or E370 Professional Learning Project may not enrol in this unit for credit.

Notes: 

This unit cannot be completed without access to a teaching group for a minimum of 30 hours, usually over an extended period while enrolled in this unit. Students are responsible for arranging access to a suitable group for their action research project. This unit should be taken in the final semester or year of enrolment.

Enrolment in the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) OR Bachelor of Education (Primary) and either Early Childhood Education minor or Inclusive Education minor.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Notes: 

Students will need to arrange for 30 hours of contact time with a group of learners to implement their research.
