Description: 

Different societies and different groups within a society construct different histories. By analysing these different histories, students are introduced to the historian's craft and to the nature of historical knowledge. Topics include: The European witch hunts; British colonisation of New South Wales; Ned Kelly; the significance of the 1914-18 War for Australia; 'Typhoid Mary'; the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan; the Holocaust as history.

Contact time: 

Lectures: 2 hours per week; tutorials: 1 hour per week.

Prerequisites: 

Nil.
Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Students who have successfully completed a unit may not enrol for credit in any subsequent version of that unit, even if under a different code and/or title, nor in any parallel lower- or higher-level version. Students enrolled in a higher-level version of a unit are required to demonstrate advanced analytical skills and/or use of advanced research tools in assignments modified for that level.

Cancellation of Courses, Minors and Units
