Description: 

This unit deals with the plethora of rules affecting the admissibility or exclusion of evidence and the examination of witnesses. These rules will be discussed within the framework of the trial process. The unit will explore both the law of evidence in Western Australia and the Commonwealth Evidence Act. The unit will also introduce students to the Professional Conduct Rules and the basics of the ethical obligations governing practitioners.

Contact time: 

Lectures: 4 hours per week.
Five non-assessable tutorials are offered as a component of this unit.

Prerequisites: 

L150/LEG150/LAW150 Australian Legal System. In addition students must have passed L120/LEG120/LAW120 Research and Writing, or be concurrently enrolled in LAW120 Research and Writing.

Students who have successfully completed a unit may not enrol for credit in any subsequent version of that unit, even if under a different code and/or title, nor in any parallel lower- or higher-level version. Students enrolled in a higher-level version of a unit are required to demonstrate advanced analytical skills and/or use of advanced research tools in assignments modified for that level.

Cancellation of Courses, Minors and Units
The University reserves the right to cancel, without notice, any course, major, minor or unit if the number of students enrolled falls below limits set by the University.
