Description:	To what extent are we products of our social environments? How do gender, class, ethnicity, ideology etc., influence how we think and act? What is power, how is it used, by whom, and for what ends? What methods can we use to study society? Examine Australian society, using research and insights from sociological theories on the nature of social institutions, power and inequality and the possibility of social change. Have your assumptions challenged and your understanding of the world stimulated.
Contact time:	Lectures/tutorials: up to 3 hours per week.
Prerequisites:	Nil. Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Students who have successfully completed a unit may not enrol for credit in any subsequent version of that unit, even if under a different code and/or title, nor in any parallel lower- or higher-level version. Students enrolled in a higher-level version of a unit are required to demonstrate advanced analytical skills and/or use of advanced research tools in assignments modified for that level.

Cancellation of Courses, Minors and Units
