Description: 

A hands-on introduction to geographical information systems (GIS) and remote sensing as used in environmental management and planning generally. Topics: spatial data analysis, map construction, classification, change detection, cartographic modelling and demographic change. Practical work includes exercises and a minor team-based or individual research project.

Contact time: 

Lectures: 2 hours per week; laboratories: 3 hours per week.

Prerequisites: 

Completion of 24 points at Part I.

Co-requisite: Internet access if studying externally.

Notes: 

Students currently enrolled, or intending to enrol, in a postgraduate environmental science course or equivalent should enrol in the higher-level option.
Off-campus students must have access to suitable computing facilities.
