This unit explores the theory and practice of conflict management in public relations. It provides some important principles for communicating in a conflict or crisis situation, and offers a critical understanding of public relations, particularly in regard to issues management and crisis communication. In addition to learning about communication and conflict from a critical perspective, students have the opportunity to develop negotiation and conflict resolution skills through workshops and role play. |
Contact time: |
Lectures: 1 hour per week; tutorials 1.5 hours per week; workshops: 2 hours per week for 3 weeks. |
Prerequisites: |
MCC204 Public Relations: Contemporary Approaches (or MCC204 Public Relations: Theory and Writing or MSC235 Public Relations: Principles and Writing Practice). |
Exclusions: |
Students who have successfully completed MSC345 Communication and Conflict Management may not enrol in this unit for credit. |
