Technology and Accounting Processes (BUS217)

Description This unit provides the fundamental concepts and technical skills that students need for future units in accounting. By the end of the unit, students will be able to record accounting transactions and produce relevant financial statements in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards. Topics include the double entry recording system, financial statements, valuation and measurement of assets, liability and equity. Students will also utilise QuickBooks software to facilitate their understanding of the computerised accounting process.
Timetabled Learning Activities Lectures: 1 hour per week; workshops: 2 hours per week.
Prerequisites BUS160 Introduction to Accounting.
Exclusions Students who have successfully completed C168 Principles of Accounting and/or C255 Financial Accounting 1 may not enrol in this unit for credit.
Notes Trimester offerings for this unit at Singapore (SGP1) are taught in intensive mode.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
