Organisation Development and Change (BUS298)

|Description||This unit prepares students to manage one of the most important processes in contemporary organisations - planned change. So much has been written and spoken about organisational change, it has been formally studied since the early 1960s, and still successful change management is an activity which eludes most organisations. This unit will introduce students to contemporary change theory and models, as well as addressing cross cultural influences on change, and introducing students to the consulting skills a successful change manager needs.|
|Unit Learning Outcomes||Upon successful completion of the unit students will be able to
K1 Classify a range of organisational development and change (ODC) models.
K2 Identify a range organisational structures for use in preparing for ODC interventions.
K3 Understand and critique key human resource management activities which support ODC interventions in contemporary organisations.
K4 Predict a range of behavioural and attitudinal responses by individuals to change activities.
S1 Develop an appropriate change strategy to meet organisational objectives
S2 Present the strategy in a professional and compelling way,
S3 Demonstrate adaptability: for continuous learning and improvement,
S4 Demonstrate broadmindedness: respecting the varied perspectives of different stakeholders,
S6 Work effectively in diverse groups to achieve educational outcomes.

A2 Analyse a complex organisational transition to reveal issues which may benefit from HRM activities in a change program.

|Timetabled Learning Activities||Workshops: 2 hours per teaching week for South Street campus
All offerings of this unit include the equivalent of 30 hours of structured learning.
|Unit Learning Experiences||The unit is delivered using blended learning design features with core unit materials provided in a digital format followed up by small class knowledge application and skills development. This is enhanced by self directed learning to further develop skills and application of knowledge to practical and current issues.|

|Exclusions||Students who have successfully completed BUS240 Organisation Development and Human Resources Management may not enrol in this unit for credit.|

|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
