The Compelling Entrepreneur: Stand and Deliver (BUS367)

Description This is the capstone unit of the BEI. In this unit, students will synthesise and apply all their learning from previous units to create a compelling business case to present to an expert panel. Students will be mentored through the process and equipped with critical skills to articulate, via traditional, non-traditional and new media, a compelling argument for investment.
Unit Learning Outcomes On successful completion of the unit students should be able to:
1. Develop a project plan that outlines tasks required, by when to meet deadlines and quality criteria
2. Construct a compelling business case
3. Design a compelling presentation to potential investors of the business venture (The Pitch)
4. Produce a comprehensive business plan to attract potential investors
Timetabled Learning Activities 2 hour workshops, one per fortnight throughout the semester.
Unit Learning Experiences This unit uses a project based approach. Students will work on their projects and meet with their mentors (academic and entrepreneur) throughout the semester every two weeks in a workshop, to seek feedback, check progress and review progress to plan. Students will be encouraged to be self-directed and to seek help and support as required outside of the fortnightly workshops. Students will provide peer support to each other as they work through the design, development and delivery of their business case and pitch.
Other Learning Experiences This unit is based on authentic learning students will explore, discuss, and construct concepts and relationships in a real-world entrepreneurial project that they have designed and developed through the degree.
Assessment Assessment in this unit focuses on drawing together the learning from the whole of the Bachelor of Entrepreneurship. The unit focuses on supporting students in the development of the business plan, business case and the pitch to launch their venture and seek funding and support. The unit is project based, with the focus for students on the development of the assessment items with support and feedback from academics and entrepreneurs.

The unit has 3 inter-linked authentic, real-world assessments:
1. Individual Project Plan 20%
2. Individual Report 40%
3. Individual Pitch 40% (Supervised in class or via Skype; or BB Collaborate or Zoom)

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
