Description | Students will be equipped to leave university with the skills needed to develop their own unique theatre and performance practice. They will gain experience in production, stage management, design, development and the pitching of creative work. They will learn about key national and international touring companies and they will have the opportunity to learn from graduates who are now successfully producing their own work. | ||||
Unit Learning Outcomes | 1. Harness techniques and skills from practice-based and theoretical research and engagement to explore the function and role of the performance industry 2. Develop practical skills in a range of contemporary modes and technologies of production 3. Understand the focus, aims and production aesthetics of the major touring companies of the time 4. Demonstrate the skills required for developing a pitch to industry Further develop skills in the areas of critical and creative analysis |

Timetabled Learning Activities | Lecture 1 hour workshops 1.5 hours per week | ||||
Unit Learning Experiences | In this unit students will learn through weekly seminar and workshops. They will have the opportunity to study the major works to be covered and then experimenting with techniques to replicate, extend and interrogate the work of these companies. This will be underpinned by solid theoretical and critical training in theatre and performance studies via the seminars, readings and discussions. Students will do practical and written tasks during the semester and they will work in groups in the workshops. They will have training in lighting, sound and performance techniques through the semester. |

Internet Access Requirements | Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online. |
