Engineering Technology Project (ENG310)

Description This unit involves the undertaking of a design project in an area of Engineering Technology. Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the underlying principles of the task to be done and, under supervision, complete a small scale project, which will require some elements of specification, design, developments and testing. Additionally, students must present their work both verbally and in written form.
Timetabled Learning Activities Meetings/laboratory work: as required.
Unit Learning Experiences Students will learn how to carry out a design project, including: formulating an engineering design task; gathering information about the context, purpose and objectives of the task from multiple sources; search for candidate solutions; evaluate those solutions; and then build, test and report on the chosen solution. Students will work independently, but they will be guided by a supervisor.
Assessment Project Proposal: 10%, Due two weeks after the commencement of the project
Interim Report: 15% , Due approximately mid term
Seminar Presentation: 15% , Delivered at the end of semester
Final Report: 60%, Due at the end of semester
Prerequisites Permission of the Engineering Academic Chair.
Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
