Biomechanics II (EXS304)

|Description||This unit will develop students understanding of biomechanics and its application within both sport and clinical settings. It will focus on neuromuscular biomechanics and advanced biomechanical assessment techniques.|
|Unit Learning Outcomes||On completion of this unit students will be able to:
1. Collect and analyse biomechanical data collected across multiple systems.
2. Describe and analyse human gait.
3. Explain neuromuscular biomechanics related to performance and injury.
4. Explain the capabilities and limitation, of different biomechanical assessment tools.
5. Apply neuromuscular biomechanical knowledge in sport and clinical settings.
|Timetabled Learning Activities||Lectures: 2 hours; Practicals: 2 hours|
|Unit Learning Experiences||The approach to learning in this unit is through lectures presenting students with the theoretical underpinnings of biomechanics. This theoretical underpinning then then applied during practical laboratories and workshops. Students will be able to demonstrate the integration of different assessment techniques and the interpretation of these results through a group movement analysis project.|
|Assessment||Lab Write Up: 15% - Demonstration of an understanding on concepts cover in laboratories
Proposal: 15% - Ability to demonstrate a practical application of biomechanics
Written Report: 30% - Ability to demonstrate a practical application of biomechanics
End of Semester Examination: 40% - -Closed book examination on all content

|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
