Advanced Business Analysis and Design (ICT353)
|Organisational Unit||Information Technology, Mathematics and Statistics|
|Description||This unit will build on earlier studies in Systems Analysis and Design with an emphasis on business process modelling. The concepts of business process modelling will be examined and the tools that can be used to analyse, model, and design business processes introduced. Agile system development methodologies will be contrasted with more formal approaches and the unified process life cycle model examined. Package evaluation and selection, and global distributed development processes will also be covered.|

LO3: Identify, model, analyse, improve and manage processes in an organisation

|Timetabled Learning Activities||Workshops: 1 x 3 hours per week.|
|Unit Learning Experiences||The approach to learning in this unit is to reinforce your existing knowledge of systems analysis by examining a series of topics of relevance to the role of a business analyst. You will learn through weekly workshops and self-directed online discussions. This unit will not have formal lectures, the classes will be interactive. The unit will use a constructivist learning approach - in which you integrate the material with your experience based around your own interests, background and career objectives. The class time will be spent discussing the relevant topic, and will include presentations from students, summaries by the lecturer, and activities. There are readings for each topic and you are expected to have obtained and made use of them before class in order to be able to contribute to the discussion. Students are encouraged to raise issues from their experience to create an interactive learning environment.
|Assessment||As a unit with a practical focus, there is more emphasis on ongoing assessment during the semester. You will be assessed on the following

Written feedback is provided for all submitted work. Verbal feedback is provided in class on a weekly basis either individually or as a group depending on the task.

|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
