Introduction to Digital Media Skills (IDD129)

|Description||This unit introduces fundamental digital media production concepts and processes, providing students with basic skills in designing, capturing, editing and publishing a range of media for the web. It also explores the theoretical consequences of digital production processes providing students with an understanding of the methods and issues of digital communication, including distribution and content management.|
|Timetabled Learning Activities||Lectures: 1 hour per week; laboratories: 2 hours per week.
|Assessment||The assessment for this unit entails: In-class exercises (60%); Essay (20%); Portfolio (20%).|
|Exclusions||Students who have successfully completed MUL101/MCC129 Introduction to Digital Media or MCC129 Introduction to Digital Design may not enrol in this unit for credit.|

|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
