Manager as a Performance Coach (MBS604)

Description Addresses critical issues focused on developing the participant as a manager-coach. Coaching as a profession has undergone rapid advancements over the last two decades. Inherently, coaching fundamentally revolves around boosting individual performance in changing contexts by leveraging individual talent and potential, knowledge advancement and capability enhancement. This unit will help the participant learn, assess and apply coaching frameworks and the processes involved in their organisational context enhancing the experiential learning activity for the participant.
Unit Learning Outcomes 1. Critically analyse an organisational context, its strategy and performance culture.
2. Develop organisational coaching skills and knowledge.
3. Assess coaching frameworks and processes relating to the organisational environment.
4. Practice coaching skills and role play coaching conversations.
5. Evaluate and craft innovative ways through which coaching can be introduced and effectively integrated across the organisation.
Timetabled Learning Activities Collaborate sessions are approximately 3 hours x 2 days over four weeks of the intensive learning period.
These sessions are entirely online. Collaborate sessions use the Zoom application, and attendance at the
Collaborate sessions are compulsory.
Unit Learning Experiences The unit is delivered using blended learning design features with core unit materials provided in a digital format followed up by small class knowledge application and skills development. This is enhanced by self-directed learning to further develop skills and application of knowledge to practical and current issues.
Students will undertake all activities online.
These activities include participating in interactive learning activities, accessing online reading, watching instructional videos, interacting with fellow students and completing assessments.
Other Learning Experiences Throughout the unit, students will be asked to complete a range of tasks
before the Collaborate sessions (e.g. readings, self-assessments, contributions to discussions on Curatr,
etc.). The Collaborate sessions include a range of interactive activities including guided instructions (both in
small groups and whole class), role plays, simulations, case studies, scenario-based tasks, problem-based
tasks, project-based tasks, enquiries-based tasks and presentations.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
