Strategic Decision-Making (MBS606)

Description This capstone core unit assumes a senior management perspective and concerns the overall strategies, objectives and policies of the organisation. Topics include strategy analysis, formulation, implementation and evaluation; strategic portfolio, risk and diversification; organisational structure and systems in strategy making; organisational culture; fragmented, emerging, mature, and declining industry environments; and managing strategic change and organisational renewal. There will also be a strong focus on the global competitiveness of companies, industries and nations.
Timetabled Learning Activities Lectures/seminars/workshops: 3 hours per week.
Prerequisites Enrolment in a graduate-level course. It is recommended that students complete MBS513 Accounting for Managers, MBS507 Marketing Management, and MBS508 Organisational Behaviour and Management before attempting this unit.
Exclusions Students who have successfully completed MBS647 Strategic Decision-Making may not enrol in this unit for credit.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
