Quantitative Methods for Business (MBS622)

Description Almost all managers will use descriptive and inferential statistics as part of their work to explain and interpret information. This unit introduces data-analysis and decision-making tools for managers. Students will be able to identify situations in which quantitative analysis can support problem solving and decision-making. They will also gain experience in applying decision-analysis technique and statistical packages in management contexts. Includes the modelling of organisations and business problems, descriptive measures of quantitative data and statistical inference.
Timetabled Learning Activities Lectures/seminars/workshops: 3 hours per week.

Prerequisites Enrolment in a graduate-level course.
Exclusions Students who have successfully completed MBS522 Quantitative Methods for Business or MBS659 Quantitative Research for business cannot enrol in this unit for credit.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
