Corporate Accounting (MBS632)

Description This is an advanced unit in financial accounting which focuses on issues that arise because a business is incorporated. The topics include those that have a high degree of specific relevance to large public companies and include disclosure, mergers and acquisitions, governance and share issue. These topics will be discussed in the context of the law, International and Australian Accounting Standards and generally accepted accounting practices.
Timetabled Learning Activities Lectures/seminars/workshops: 3 hours per week.
Assessment Workshop Participation and presentation: 10%
Mid-term: 30%
Team Assignment: 10%
Final: 50%
Prerequisites MBS513/ MBS539 Accounting for Managers.
Notes It is strongly recommended that Accounting Processes is completed before taking this unit.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
