Complexities of Health and Illness Across the Lifespan 3 (NUR352)

|Description||This unit further examines the complexities of health and illness through 6 modules and explores the complex physiology and pathophysiology of fluid and electrolyte disorders, trauma and shock, cancer, burns, vascular and lymphatic disorders and haematological disorders. Building on knowledge obtained in the first two complexities of health and illness units, this unit aims to develop and apply this knowledge to more complex systems and prepare the student for the final clinical stages of the nursing education programme.|
|Unit Learning Outcomes||On successful completion of the unit students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding across the lifespan of the physiology and pathophysiology of fluid, acid-base and electrolyte disorders.
2. Demonstrate an understanding across the lifespan of trauma, shock, cancer, burns, and immune, haematological, vascular and lymphatic disorders.
3. Apply knowledge of the assessment, diagnosis and pharmacological management of fluid, acid-base and electrolyte disorders.
4. Apply knowledge of the assessment, diagnosis and pharmacological management of fluid, acid-base and electrolyte disorders, trauma, shock, cancer, burns, haematological, vascular and lymphatic disorders.
|Timetabled Learning Activities||Facilitated teaching and learning sessions will be available during the semester.|
|Unit Learning Experiences||This unit is a self-directed on-line learning unit. The on-line learning topics (modules) are designed to facilitate critical thinking and reflection,.. The unit is divided six on-line learning topics (modules), each providing lectures and self-directed worksheets as well as reading and other online resources. Online discussion is encouraged to promote collaboration, peer support and learning.|
|Other Learning Experiences||Online content includes - recorded lectures, assigned readings and other resources, worksheets to help guide student learning, links to video content, embedded online discussion forums to provide additional support|
|Assessment||The assessment components of this unit include one online quiz, a pharmacology Workbook and a final exam. Assessments are designed to consolidate formal timetabled and informal self-directed learning, and to assist students in linking theory and practice. Assessments will allow students to evaluate and demonstrate their understanding of theoretical material to achieve unit learning outcomes. Students will receive feedback on the pharmacology workbook|

|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
