Clinical Psychology: External Practicum (PSY604)

|Description||Students must complete practical placements in appropriate agencies and organisations. They will be advised to select placements that meet APAC and Registration Board requirements. Students will also attend seminars in professional, practical and methodological issues.|
|Unit Learning Outcomes||1. Development and implementation of a supervision contract between placement agency, student and Murdoch university to cover the student's specific learning needs in relation to psychological assessment, formulation, therapeutic intervention and reflective practice in line with AHPRA areas of competency. On completion of each placement, students will demonstrate competence in individually negotiated objectives.
2. Progress towards the completion of a log-book which, at the end of the completed unit, documents that students have completed APAC requirements for client contact and supervision. On completion of this unit, students will be able to demonstrate professional and ethical practice at the level of a clinical psychologist registrar.
|Timetabled Learning Activities||Practical placements: 108 days total; seminars/workshops: as scheduled throughout the year. Seminars: 6 x 3 hours per Semester|
|Unit Learning Experiences||Completion of supervised clinical practicum placements. Applied practice seminars and case presentations.|
|Assessment||Assessment is on a pass/fail basis. Attendance and participation in seminars is required.
Assessment and feedback is provided on a weekly basis by the field supervisor in conjunction with assessment and review of log books by supervisors. Satisfactory completion of mid and end of placement reviews conducted by field and university supervisors.
Successfully complete required supervised placements to obtain clinical experience with a range of client groups and to demonstrate clinical competency in areas of clinical practice.
Written and oral case presentations assessed by university supervisor or their delegate.
|Prerequisites||Enrolment in MAppPsych (Clinical) or MAppPsych (Clinical)/PhD; successful completion of PSY537 Clinical Psychology: Internal Practicum (Child, Youth and Family) or equivalent and PSY538 Clinical Psychology Internal Practicum (Adult) or equivalent; Provisional or General Registration as a Psychologist with Psychology Board of Australia.|
|Notes||Students are able to enrol in variable points in this unit to allow for the possibility that practica may straddle two calendar years.|
|Assessment||A result of Ungraded Pass or Fail is awarded for this unit.|

|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
