Professional Placement in Media Production (SCR588)
|Organisational Unit||Creative Media, Arts and Design|
|Description||The aim of this unit is to give students on-the-job industry experience to provide a practical bridge from university into the workplace. Industry placements will be full-time across several professional film shoots. During this time students are required to demonstrate a range of skills relevant to their vocational specialisation.|
|Unit Learning Outcomes||1. Become competent in the crew role(s) that the student participated in.
2. Develop a satisfactory understanding of professional film-set communication.
3. Acquire industry standard knowledge of film-set workflow.
4 Demonstrate growth in competence of film production at an industry level.
|Timetabled Learning Activities||The professional film shoots are practical activities that run for 3 days each. It is expected that students will participate in around 4 of these in total. The timetable for these shoots is subject to change, but will be locked in during semester 1.|
|Unit Learning Experiences||There are no lectures or tutorials in this unit, but instead students participate full-time in professional short film shoots with local industry professionals. In this, students will apply the knowledge and skills they have learned from the previous seminars in SCR538. These shoots are full-time and students are expected to attend 100%. There will also be some pre-production activity, depending on the crew roles that the students undertake. Over the course of each shoot students are asked to engage in reflective learning practices to enhance their potential for improvement.|
|Other Learning Experiences||Consultations with Unit Coordinator.|
|Assessment||Students will be assessed as to how they perform in each role on the professional shoots by the industry mentors as their department heads. Students will also complete ongoing reflective journals during production to enhance their performance improvement and demonstrate knowledge learned.|
|Prerequisites||Completion of SCR538 Advanced Media Seminars and enrolment in the Graduate Diploma in Media Production.|

|Internet Access Requirements||Murdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.|
