Health Services Project (SHP640)

Description In this unit students are required to design, conduct and report in journal article format and by seminar presentation a research project addressing an issue related to the coursework area which the student has selected and be undertaken under the supervision of an approved staff member. The proposed topic of study should first be discussed with the Academic Chair.
Timetabled Learning Activities Fortnightly contact with supervisor.
Unit Learning Experiences This unit is conducted under the supervision of an academic staff member and is designed to further develop students' research and scholarship skills. While students are expected to demonstrate high levels of organisational skills and be able to work independently and in a timely manner, supervisors and students will work closely and meet regularly to plan, develop and implement a health research project.
Assessment The assessment component of this unit includes a Project Proposal (30%), Journal Article (60%) and Oral Presentation of Project Findings (10%). Supervisors will provide regular feedback on written work during all phases of the project to facilitate student learning and achievement of unit outcomes.
Prerequisites NUR632 or SHP632 Applied Health Research Methods: From Research to Practice or equivalent research methodologies unit.
Exclusions Students who have successfully completed NUR640 Health Services Project may not enrol in this unit for credit.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
