Strategic Health Leadership and Management (SWM519)

Description This unit is designed to provide students with knowledge on leadership and managerial approaches pertaining to health care organisations. The overall objective is, through the use of case studies, to introduce students to theoretical and practical issues in healthcare leadership and management in Australian and global health industries, as well as in developing appropriate competencies to work effectively in health organisations. The unit aims at developing essential strategic health leadership for effective management of health services and projects.
Timetabled Learning Activities Lectures/seminars: 6 hours per week over four weeks.
Assessment For this Unit three assessments are foreseen:
1. Group Case Study Policy Analysis (CS/P A) 40%
2. Presentation on CS/P A 30%
3. Article critiques 30%
Dr. Paolucci is available to provide guidance and feedback on appointment basis or before/after class.
Prerequisites Enrolment in a graduate-level award.

Internet Access RequirementsMurdoch units normally include an online component comprising materials, discussions, lecture recordings and assessment activities. All students, regardless of their location or mode of study, need to have access to and be able to use computing devices with browsing capability and a connection to the Internet via Broadband (Cable, ADSL or Mobile) or Wireless. The Internet connection should be readily available and allow large amounts of data to be streamed or downloaded (approximately 100MB per lecture recording). Students also need to be able to enter into online discussions and submit assignments online.
